GALEC 2 : Workshop "COHABITATION" 4/7/2013

Cohabitation is an agreement that a couple lives together in a sexual relationship, especially when not legally getting married. Currently, in Western countries 60% of all marriages are preceded by cohabitation, but fewer than half of cohabiting unions end in marriage. Another fact is that more than two-thirds of married couples in the US say that they lived together before getting married. Are those figures surprised you? Do you know what makes cohabitation more common even in Asian culture like Vietnam. Let’s come and share your opinions on this issue at this Thursday workshop of Galec 2 English Club.


Part 1: Warm up (15 minutes)


Part 2: Free talk (40 minutes)

1) What is cohabitation? Does it only happen with youngsters?
2) How are increases in cohabitation related to the rising age at marriage?
3) What are advantages and disadvantages of cohabitation?
4) Tell us the reasons why many couples find cohabitation an ideal choice before marriage.
5) Eventually, is cohabitation prior to marriage right?


Part 3: Presentation and Q&A (40 minutes)


Part 4: Group work (20 minutes)
Illustrate the daily living of a young couple who is cohabitating. The play should demonstrate the negative outcomes of living without marriage.
