Workshop: POVERTY
Time: 6h30-8h30 p.m., Thursday 29/08/2013
Place: E-Connect Training English Center, No 198 Thai Thinh

Poverty can be defined as a condition characterised by severe deprivation of basic human needs, including food, safe drinking water, sanitation facilities, health, shelter, education and information. When people are unable to eat, go to school, or have any access to health care, then they can be considered to be in poverty, regardless of their income. So what are the reasons for this phenomenon? How to overcome it? Let’s join and share your opinions on this issue at this Thursday workshop of Galec 2 English Club.

GALEC 2 : Workshop "POVERTY" 29/08/2013 Porverty_zpsf69e1221

I. Warm-up game (30’)

II. Discussion (30’)

1. What comes to mind when you hear the word “poverty”? Do you consider yourself to be poor, middle-class, or rich?
2. Do you feel sorry for people who live on the street? Are they supposed to be lazy?
3. Why does every country in the world have poor people? Which country do you think has the best/worst record for helping the poor?
4. There are a lot of quotes about poverty, such as "The greatest of evils and the worst of crimes is poverty." or "Poverty is the parent of revolution and crime." Do you agree with them?

III. Presentation - Q&A (30’)

IV. Group work (30’)

Suppose that it’s going to be possible for the world to make poverty disappear. Disscuss in groups and use your imagination to build a world without poverty.
