GALEC: Report for Galec Sportsday 15/9/2013

Galec Sportsday 2013 was held with the aim of creating a sporty environment for English learners. This year, Galec Sportsday 2013 was officially occurred on 15th September, 2013 in Bachthao Park, Hoang Hoa Tham St., Ba Dinh Dist. Careful preparations added with high enthusiasm of all members in general and Galecers in particular were core factors that made Galec Sportsday 2013 absolutely exciting and successful.

To make it perfect as much as possible, as the host, we – key members of Galec English Club came to the venue  – Bachthao Park so early to prepare all things for our special event. We all were so excited that we couldn’t stop doing and talking about it: our contribution and effort beforehand, the position of each one as well as the emotion when Sportsday was coming closer and closer. After 30 minutes of arrangement, everything was ready. Participants started appearing and it was true that each member coming added a piece of happiness and appreciation to the bottom of our heart. We just wanted to say a sincere thank to all of you.

Galec Sportsday 2013 officially began at 8.30 a.m in one of the most beautiful parks in Hanoi with more than 80 participants. First of all, without a doubt, it was the opening ceremony. After getting thunderous applause from the audience, the MCs – Ms.Duong and Mr.Uoc introduced the Sportsday; some information about Galec English Club as well as Summit Education Services – the sponsor also the partner who has been traveling with us in this event from the beginning . Once again, thank you so much  for your great support. Hope that this will be a sound foundation for our long-term friendship. Right after that, here we came to the most important and exciting part – playing sports!!!
Participants were divided into 4 groups. They were required to put a name and a slogan for their group. This improved one important fact that the creativeness of our brain was unlimited. We had so many socked names and slogans; for instant, names like Ba Tung, Ngoc Trinh or slogans like “Living is doffing” that we thought we may remember it for the rest of our life.

The first game was “Galec House”. Four teams stood in four separate straight lines. Here is rule: At the starting point, two males cross their hands so that one girl can sit on. The three have to move quickly to place where have eight pieces of paper cut from the Sportsday 2013’s poster then take only one piece and come back. One member in the team is responsible for rearranging those pieces into a correct order. Of course, the team finishing quickest would be the winner. Here are some pictures:






The second game named “Sack Jumping”. Personally, this was the most funny and ebullient game on that day. Two members put one of their two legs into a sack and move to the place we keep numerous balloons. After taking one, they come back without releasing the balloon and another couple start a new turn. Which team had more balloons would be the winner. Here, let’s take a look at these picture so that you can see how pleasant it was:






In the third game “Balloon Breaking” , a cord is used to tie the two feet of one boy and one girl. The rest foot of each one is tied to a balloon. Their mission is to break down the opponent’s balloon. From so much effort of members in group and also from rivalry’s when some couples couldn’t tie the cord tightly and immediately became the losers; Maria and Ba Tung got to the final where they faced with a harder game - “United Effort”. The team stood in a straight line and each member was separated by a balloon. The team had to move fast without releasing the balloon and at the finishing point broke all balloons. Ba Tung (again) excellently defeated Maria and won this game. Bravo Ba Tung!!!









The fourth game “Tugging” was certainly unforgettable. Six members in a group made their biggest efforts to become the winner. And in this game, we again saw the unbeatable strength of Ba Tung after striking down all rest teams. We had to say that if Ba Tung couldn’t make it without the contribution of Mr.Trung and Mr.Khang. Some members of the other group finally uttered their feelings “What kind of food do you eat everyday?”. How funny it was!!!









Everyone seemed to be exhausted a bit after four games. It was time to stop playing. We sat in a circle, enjoyed the snack and sang a lot of songs together. With me, it was so memorable and meaningful. Galec key members meanwhile invited the representatives of winning teams coming to stage (well actually, it was just the center of the circle ^^) to receive the reward which was 150000 VND for the first prize and 100000 VND for the second prize, added with the scholarships of 500000 VND from Summit Education Services.

However enjoyable this event was, it needed an end. We took a picture together and promised that we all would be here in Sportsday 2014. We would like to express our gratitude to the Sponsor - Summit Education Services and all participants for what you did to make this event unforgettable, especiallly the volunteer student club of Hanoi University of Science and Technology.
