Workshop: THE UGLY VIETNAMESE
Time: 6h30-8h30, Thursday, January17th 2013

Have you ever heard about the Chinese’s famous book: “ The Ugly Chinaman”?. Similarly, in Japan, there is a so-called “the ugly Japanese” book, too. And even there is one in America. It is obvious that China, Japan, and America are all the developed countries. Still, they are not afraid of confronting their bad habits and their bad thinking. So why Vietnam- a developing country- our beloved country would not have such a thing for us to self- criticize ourselves in a POSITIVE way. The topic this week will be a good chance for you guys to express your own viewpoint of Vietnamese people in general.

Part 1: Warm up (15 minutes)
Game: The Strong Foot.

Part 2: Free talk (35 minutes)

1. What are your own bad habits? (Let’s be honest and have some detailed examples: such as saying swear words too much, cutting in line, throwing litter everywhere
In your own opinion, what do those bad habits origin from?
2. From the ancient time up to now, what bad thoughts and habits do you think they still exist
3. How those affect you and other people
4. What should we do to give up our bad thoughts and habits?
5. You’ve heard about habits many times, and today we once again talk about it. Is now the right moment to change your own bad habits?/ your country’s bad habits? If NOT NOW …. So WHEN?
6. Should we also have that kind of book like: “The ugly Vietnamese.”?
How come we don’t try to make that book. ( Just do the cover and the index to understand the gist of the book).
