Dear RCSD alumni,

RE: Announcement of CDSSEA Scholarships for Applicants from Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam and Thailand Wishing to do a Master’s Programs in Development Studies at the Asian Institute of Technology, Chiang Mai University or Chulalongkorn University in Thailand, 2012

Greetings from Chiang Mai; I hope that you are all making good progress in your careers and your higher education studies! Over recent years, RCSD has provided a number of scholarships to students from Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam in order for them to further their graduate studies by joining the MA Program in Sustainable Development at RCSD, Chiang Mai University. As a result, there are now more than 70 RCSD MA alumni throughout the region.

In order to enhance the capacity of human resources in the area of development studies, we would like to announce the launch of the ‘Consortium of Development Studies in Southeast Asia’ (CDSSEA), which is comprised of the three leading development studies’ programs in Thailand, namely the MA in International Development Studies (MAIDS) at Chulalongkorn University, the M.Sc. in Gender and Development Studies (MGDS) at the Asian Institute of Technology and the MA in Sustainable Development (MASD) at Chiang Mai University. The consortium aims to build leadership skills related to development studies among young and mid-career researchers in Southeast Asia - to strengthen the level of knowledge in the region regarding the regionalization of development and regional connectivity in line with the emergence of the ASEAN Community.

Under the auspices of the CDSSEA, we are able to offer scholarships to those who would like to further their studies in development issues, plus offer more choice in terms of the three programs offered, namely: the MAIDS program at Chulalongkorn University, the MGDS program at the Asian Institute of Technology and the MASD program at Chiang Mai University. For the academic year 2012, eleven scholarships will be awarded to successful candidates from Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam (CLMV) and Thailand, those who wish to join one of the three programs mentioned above.

Those interested in joining one of the study programs should apply directly to the relevant institution. To receive a CDSSEA scholarship, those interested should send a separate application form to the CDSSEA Secretariat at RCSD, which is in charge of administering the scholarships. As each program has a different academic calendar, the deadlines for the CDSSEA applications are as follows:

MA in Sustainable Development (MASD)/ CMU
15 April 2012
MA in International Development Studies (MAIDS)/ Chula
30 April 2012
MSc in Gender and Development Studies (MGDS)/ AIT
31 May 2012

We would very much appreciate it if you could distribute this information to anyone who might be interested in applying for the scholarship, and have attached a brochure and scholarship application form for your information. Please feel free to contact the CSDSEA Secretariat at [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.], if you have any further queries.
Yours Sincerely,

Chayan Vaddhanaphuti, Ph.D.
RCSD Director
CDSSEA Secretariat
